The Department of Chemistry started functioning as a department under the science and engineering faculty in 2010 at the Academic Building of Teachers Training College, Rangpur (temporary campus of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur) under the leadership of the then Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md Abdul Jalil Miah, adjunct Rajshahi University Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, first appointed lecturer Bijan Mohon Chaki and H. M. Tariqul Islam. The academic program started with four years integrated bachelor course enrolling a batch of 60 B.Sc.
